Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and administer geospatial software applications supporting naval meteorology and oceanography missions. This role focuses on building and maintaining geospatial solutions using Esri ArcGIS Enterprise technologies, backend services, and cloud-enabled architectures. The position requires strong technical leadership, hands-on development skills, and close collaboration with mission stakeholders in a secure, on-site environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and administer Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Enterprise deployments on Linux servers
Lead development of Esri web applications, including Experience Builder solutions
Maintain Java servlets and web applications hosted in Apache Tomcat
Develop backend automation and services using Python and shell scripting
Build software solutions centered on geospatial data, map-based search, and visualization
Research and implement optimizations for low-bandwidth network environments
Gather and document software requirements from customers and stakeholders
Review team progress in an Agile/Scrum environment and recommend new tasking
Conduct application security reviews using DISA STIG checklists
Facilitate harvesting and synchronization of meteorology and oceanography (METOC) data from government and scientific sources
Support migration of software, data, and services to cloud environments
Organize and maintain accurate metadata for METOC products and services
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geospatial Science, or a related field
Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance prior to start
IAT/IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security+)
Minimum 5 years of experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal for ArcGIS
Minimum 10 years of experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python
Preferred Qualifications
Higher-level DoD clearance eligibility
Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and DISA STIG compliance
