- Associate Director, Cloud Infrastructure

Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, the Associate Director, Cloud Infrastructure will manage and optimize Viridian’s cloud environment with a strong focus on data operations, GxP compliant system reliability, security, and cloud infrastructure automation. The ideal candidate will enhance platform architecture and streamline operational processes to ensure secure and scalable delivery of cloud services. This role partners across IT and business functions to support rapidly evolving technical and data needs.
This role is based in our Waltham, MA headquarters. Our office-based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Viridian’s cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Oversee the architecture and lifecycle management of cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, Kubernetes/containers, and identity/security controls
- Drive infrastructure automation using IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) to standardize deployments and reduce operational overhead
- Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to ensure cloud platforms effectively support data pipelines, integrations, and analytics workloads
- Drive data aggregation, tagging, and cleansing initiatives across cloud platforms to ensure high-quality, well-structured, and accessible data for analytics and reporting
- Implement monitoring, observability, and performance optimization strategies to ensure high availability and rapid incident response
- Maintain alignment with GxP, SOC2, and other regulatory frameworks, ensuring cloud systems remain compliant, documented, and inspection ready
- Partner closely with IT Operations, Application Owners, and Business stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into scalable cloud solutions
- Manage vendor relationships for cloud platforms, MSPs, security tools, and infrastructure services
- Develop the cloud strategy and roadmap aligned with organizational growth, data needs, and emerging technology trends
- Develop and deliver training programs for IT staff and business users to promote best practices in cloud usage, security, and compliance
- Evaluate and implement new tools, platforms, and operational approaches that improve performance, resilience, or efficiency
- Define and maintain SOPs, validation documentation, operational runbooks, and cloud governance standards, including resource tagging, access controls, and data residency requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or platform operations, with 2–4 years in a technical leadership role
- AWS and/or Azure Certifications a plus
- Experience working in regulated environments (GxP, biotech, life sciences) with validated systems and documented controls
- Proven track record architecting, deploying, and managing cloud environments
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines a plus (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions)
- Strategic thinker who can build roadmaps and mature cloud platforms over time
- Highly collaborative, with experience partnering across IT, Security, Data, QA, and business functions
- Ability to operate in a fast paced, high growth environment with shifting priorities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to security, compliance, and operational excellence
- Strong commitment to ethical standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to 5%
- The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience
